ITANAGAR, Jul 30: Reiterating their scepticism regarding the practicability of the idea of creating autonomous regions in the state, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) in view of the fresh demand made by the Mon Autonomous Region Demand Committee (MARDC) regarding creation of the Mon Autonomous Council (MAC) comprising Tawang & West Kameng districts has appealed the state government to act with caution.
Through a press release issued on Thursday, AAPSU has expressed apprehension that acceptance of the demand and subsequent creation of the MAC and the Patkai Autonomous Council (PAC) comprising Tirap, Longding & Changlang districts is bound open floodgates for similar demands from various regions in the state which consequently will be detrimental to the overall tribal integrity of Arunachal Pradesh. “Will the state government take similar initiatives as that are being taken in accelerating the MAC & PAC demands when similar demands of Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) surface from areas inhabited by other tribal communities?” the union questioned.
Sharpening the tone, AAPSU opined that the yardstick to measure the level of socio-economic-cultural progress and preservation is almost the same for every region in a multi-tribal state like Arunachal and any initiative which directly or indirectly sows the seeds of discord among the vast number of tribes should be averted, adding that every community and region in the state deserves progress, prosperity and cohesive development which must be of an inclusive nature.
Elaborating on their stand, the apex union reasoned that there is already a Department of Karmik & Adhyatmik Affairs and Department of DoTCL and funds from both the state and central governments are being allocated to these areas demanding Autonomous District Councils. “As Arunachal Pradesh is a 100% tribal state, all developments should be inclusive and all communities should be made part of the development process,” the release read, cautioning the state government to adopt a holistic approach to such demands and take every region of the state as a cohesive whole towards the path of prosperity and development to avoid any far-reaching negative ramifications in the long run.
The state  government should not allow fault lines to emerge on the basis of region or community, the union asserted. AAPSU PR
