Itanagar, Jul 22: With torrential rain showing no signs of decline, infrastructures all over the state continue remaining at the receiving end.
In the twin capital region today, non-stop rain since early morning caused damage to a few houses and infrastructures. At Lekhi area two OBT houses were submerged and at Upper Police Colony Naharlagun also landslide led to the damage of two houses. Deputy Commissioner Capital Complex Vikram Singh Malik visited both the sites and took stock of the situation. The victims were evacuated to safer locations and provided with immediate relief by EAC Ashok Tajo and CO Naharlagun Laxmi Dodum on behalf of the Capital Complex District Administration.
DC has appealed the denizens of Capital Complex to stay alert and refrain from staying in low lying and vulnerable locations, besides informing that Works Departments are engaged 24x7 with men and machinery. Few blockages on Ganga Jully, Museum and Borum roads were cleared by PWD CD A and CD B.
For any kind of assistance, residents can call over the Toll Free Number 1077 anytime.
Meanwhile, incessant rain during the intervening nights of July 20 and 21 last has caused extensive damage to the headworks of all water sources from Ene, Hisum & Hide rivers and Panya stream resulting in unprecedented water crisis in Aalo township.
Considering the gravity of the situation, the entire PHED department led by EE PHED Kirba Sora is engaged in restoration works on war footing with voluntary participation by many people of the area. The department is making alternative arrangements to supply drinking water through private vehicles although it will be a tough task to cater to the water needs of the entire township.
Earlier, a large portion of the inhabitants did not get drinking water for nearly for a week due to disruption of headworks at Ene river and PHED somehow managed to restore the supply by using JCB. MLA Aalo East, Kento Jini accompanied by EE, AEs and JEs visited the site but after two days of restoration, another flood invasion did further damages causing a major water crisis.
Incessant rain in the past couple of days has trigerred landslides in several districts of Arunachal Pradesh, the Met Department here said on Monday.
The state capital alone has received 119.4 mm of rainfall in the past 36 hours, even as moderate to heavy rain is forecast across the state for the next few days.
The landslides have affected transportation and power supply in various parts of the state, officials said. Power supply to five districts -- East Siang, Lower Dibang Valley, Dibang Valley, Namsai and Lohit -- has snapped after a 132-KV transmission tower collapsed, they said.
Several vehicles are reportedly stuck on National Highway-415 for hours, the officials said.
However, despite the downpour, the state has recorded an average rainfall deficit of 33 per cent, the Met office said here. PTI UPL ACD
