Roing, Nov 13: In view of growing number of allegations regarding the rampant practice of illegal trading and tampering of MRPs of packaged commodities here in the township, a meeting for reviewing the situation and drawing of immediate measures was conducted here at the DC’s Conference Hall chaired by ADC Lower Dibang Valley district Tapik Pertin.
SP J.K Lego, representatives from the departments of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs, Tax & Excise, Food & Civil supply, Lower Dibang Valley District Students’ Union, Adi Students’ Union, All Idu Mishmi Students’ Union, Bazar representatives, AMYAA NGO and citizens attended the meeting. Secretary AMYAA NGO RK Paul on behalf of the Community Based Organizations (CBOs) while highlighting the problems faced by middle-class families said they are being fooled on a daily basis by almost all the shops in Roing due to tampering of MRPs. ADC thanked AMYAA and the CBOs for calling upon the District Administration and concerned Departments to resolve the issue. The SP sought for an early formation of a team comprising representatives from the DA, concerned departments and CBOs of Roing to check the illegalities.

Demand for regular checking of prices by concerned departments, more stringent mechanism for correct determination of manufacturing and expiry dates, control on sale of Chinese goods, way outs for checking illegal sale of pork meat and broiler by traders without proper trading licenses, putting an end to exorbitant taxi fares and placing on public domain a special helpline number for reporting illegal trading activities were among the important topics discussed in the meeting.
The representatives of the students’ unions asserted the urgent need to address the issue either through legal proceedings or raids.
