ITANAGAR, Jun 27:Alleging cold blooded murder of Papung Nayu in a city hotel here on June 24 last, the Pipu-Gwawepurang Social Organisation (PGSO) on Tuesday asked the state government to speed up the investigation and to award stringent punishment to the persons involved in the heinous crime.

In separate representations to Home commissioner, DGP and SP Capital, the organisation while condemning the incident in strongest terms asked the officials to take strong action against the arrested culprits besides those evading arrest saying that ‘justice delayed is justice denied’.

The PGSO also threatened to launch rigorous democratic movement if the police fail to arrest the absconding accused and award exemplary punishment at the earliest.

The lifeless body of 29-year-old Papung was recovered under mysterious circumstances from the terrace of the ground floor of Waii International Hotel here on June 24 last.

According to police, Papung along with his three other friends had checked into the hotel for the past seven days and the body of the deceased was found by a worker of the hotel at around 7 am on Saturday last while he was cleaning the roof top of the ground floor.

According to the CCTV footage, Toki was with Papung in the same room of the hotel at the time of the incident, while Padu had an altercation with Papung in the bar barely an hour before the incident, informed a police official.

Police on Sunday arrested two persons in connection with the murder of Papung, a resident of Hari Niablam village in Pipu of Circle of East Kameng district.

The arrested persons - Toki Taloh and Yumli Padu were produced before the CJM court in Yupia on Monday, police said.

Reportedly Toki is the son of former minister and sitting MLA Tapang Taloh, while Padu is the son of WRD secretary Geyum Padu.

The two have been arrested as suspects on the basis of CCTV camera footage of Waii International Hotel and Poong nest Bar.

It was also informed that one person from Nagaland was also questioned regarding the case, while another from Manipur has been called for questioning. Both came to Itanagar regarding a car deal with Papung.

The PGSO in the representations pointed out that on the day of the incident, the deceased along with several other persons were present in the Poongnest Restaurant till 4 AM in the morning and later reached the hotel at around 5.15 AM where he had taken a room.

“Papung went to his room 311 where Toko was staying with him. In the adjacent 310 room of the hotel, two persons who were Manipuris were staying. The windows of both the rooms were found opened during the incident which raises doubt that the two persons were involved in the gruesome murder,” the representations alleged.

The PGSO further alleged that the body of Papung was found at around 7.30 AM  on the first floor of the hotel and police reached the spot at 8.30 AM despite the fact that the hotel was just one kilometre from the police station.

“As per statement of the hotel manager, accused Toki Taloh was in the same room with Papung. Why he did not informed the police if the incident was a suicide case? Why the police did not arrest the two Manipuris?” the PGSO questioned.
