ITANAGAR, Jun 22:  ICR Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom today convened a meeting with all the Principals and Headmasters of Higher Secondary and Secondary Schools in the capital to discuss issues pertaining to their functioning and development.  
Pressing  issues like academic progress, infrastructure, basic facilities like availability of drinking water and electricity, shortage of subject teachers, especially Maths and Science, shortage of peons and chowkidars, land encroachment and boundary issues were discussed in detail. The Principals/Headmasters apprised the DC that most of the school buildings have been constructed in the late 1970s and are in dilapidated condition, needing urgent attention. They requested the DC to look into the provision of appointing subject teachers to fill the shortage and urged for strict implementation of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) which prohibits selling of tobacco products to minors below the age of 18 years and in places within a 100-metre radius from the an educational institution. The DC assured to look into the grievances and informed that a separate meeting will be conducted soon with the DDSE for finding the best-possible  solution.
He further informed that he will be visiting the schools himself to take stock of the ground realities. Among others, EAC( Education) Lod Takkar, DDSE Mallo Yam Gollo, BEO Nabam Shelly attended the meeting. DIPRO
