ITANAGAR, Sep 14: The Capital Police on Sunday seized three packets of suspected heroin weighing approximately 370 gram including 12 plastic vials estimated worth lakhs of rupees from two persons at a city hotel.
The duo came to Itanagar from Longding on September 10 evening and were staying at a hotel in C Sector, Capital SP Tumme Amo told reporters in a press briefing held at Itanagar PS on Monday.
Amo revealed the raid was conducted based on information from sources about the movement of the drug smugglers from Longding to the state capital. “Acting on the tip-off, a police team raided the said hotel where the suspects were staying and caught a 40-year-old person red-handed with suspected heroin,” SP informed, adding that his accomplice was later arrested by tracking his location with the help of CMCU at PHQ.
Two mobile phones, about Rs 9000 cash and the vehicle used by the duo have also been seized.
“Interrogation is underway to
ascertain exactly who brought the contraband items to the state capital and track the source as both are giving contradictory statements,” SP informed.
Meanwhile, asserting that parents could play a major role in preventing substance abuse among youths, Amo appealed to them to strictly monitor their children's attitudes and behaviour, adding that early intervention and good parental care are critical in preventing the menace.
