ITANAGAR, Sep 22: Capital police arrested five persons and recovered 18 stolen two-wheelers from different locations including the neighbouring state of Assam.
Speaking to reporters, Superintendent of Police ICR- Jimmy Chiram(IPS) informed that following frequent reports of two wheeler theft cases in the twin city, Capital Police constituted a team led by SDPO Itanagar Kamdam Sikom under the SP’s close supervision which busted the gang active in Itanagar area.
Elaborating about the operation, the SP stated that on September 17 last, a written complaint was received from one Phill Teti of Jollang village that his bike was stolen from Ganga near the clock tower the previous day around 11.30 PM. Accordingly, a case was registered vide ITA PS Case No. 400/2021 u/s 379 IPC.
On the same day, the night patrol team of Chimpu PS caught red-handed one Toko Gotam (18) of middle village, Hollongi alongwith the stolen bike at around 2am from Chandranagar area. During examination, Gotam admitted that he had stolen the bike by breaking the handle lock. Accordingly, he was arrested in the instant case after all legal formalities.
On further interrogation, he disclosed selling stolen items like snatched mobile and two-wheelers to one Philimon Mochahary , resident of Langdang Para under PS- Gohpur after which a police team raided Mochahary’s home at midnight and arrested him in the said case. On further examination, it was revealed that a team executed the thefts in the twin city and sold them in the Hollongi-Gohpur area.
Capital Police comprising of SI AK Jha, SI SK Jha and team led by SDPO Sikom raided different places in Assam near Hollongi- Kokila area such as Kadumguri, Vijaypur, Sonajuli, Kokilaguri etc and recovered 12 stolen two wheelers and arrested Ganga Modaram Basumatary of village 2 no. Khadumguri and Ganga Rajiv Mochahary of village 1 Kokila Guri.
During this operation, the police team was obstructed by local people but we somehow managed to tackle the situation amicably and got success. It is also informed that they used to sell the two wheelers at rates from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 without documentation. Some of the receivers and the seller are still absconding from the police and more two wheelers are expected to be recovered soon, the SP said.
Today one bike lifter Nich Vikash (18 ) was caught red handed with two wheelers by the Police team near Zero Point when he was trying to break the lock and from his possession 1 laptop and 2 mobile phones were also recovered. Accordingly, a case has been registered against him vide ITA PS Case no. 405/2021 u/s 379 IPC.
Till now Capital Police has recovered a total of 18 two-wheelers and with this breakthrough it has solved a series of 12 cases registered at Itanagar PS.
Capital Police further appreciated SI M.Hussain i/c Hollongi Checkpost, HC J Kamum, ASI P Baruah I/c Rajgarh OP (Assam Police) and team who assisted in the operation.
The SP also requested denizens of the twin-city capital to be extra vigilant in containing such types of increasing crimes and also inform Capital Police immediately by calling at 112.
