ITANAGAR, Mar 21: A meeting was convened on Monday by Sachin Rana, Deputy Commissioner, ICC & Papum Pare to discuss on the issue of “Prevention of Child Marriage” within the said region as per the guidelines of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).
During the meeting, Jiken Bomjen, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Capital Itanagar briefed about the video conference held on March 16 last with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR). He also highlighted the various social evils and practices that were present during the late 90s regarding child marriages.
Superintendent of Police, ICR, Jimmy Chiram informed about the modus operandi of the Child Welfare Committee, POCSO Act, Juvenile Justice Act etc. He also informed that at present the official report of child marriage cases within ICR is nil.
Aroti Tayeng, Deputy Director, ICDS-cum-Child Marriage Prohibition Officer informed about various issues faced by the department and also lack of permanent structure for One Stop Centre at ICR & Papum Pare.
Later, the DC said that it is necessary to establish a standard operating procedure to tackle cases of child marriage. He also said that quarterly meeting on issue of child marriage is to be convened. He also highlighted on the importance of awareness on child marriage at Block/School level and to have a social media campaign on child marriage.The DC also also highlighted that separate awareness related activity on Prohibition of Child Marriage is to be Carried out during the Seva Aapke Dwar Camps.
He also stressed that Workshop on Child Marriage and related topics like POCSO Act, JJ Act, social evils etc are to be conducted from time to time.
Among others, the meeting was attended by Tamo Dada, EAC(Welfare), Dr Mandip Perme DMO Capital, ST Zara DDSE Capital and others.
