Deputy Commissioner, Itanagar capital complex, Prince Dawan on Saturday made a commitment for zero tolerance towards child abuse, child labour etc under the capital complex and sought support from all citizens to make a better future for unprivileged children.

 

He was speaking in an awareness programme being conducted to create awareness among the public about child right, child abuse and child policy, organized under the active guidance of the district administration in collaboration with Itanagar Market Welfare Association (IMWA) and Child Welfare Committee (CWC).

While comparing a child with a seedling, DC stated that raising a child is similar to cultivating a tree. They have similar fundamental requirement to be taken care of like proper care, nutrients and assistance to coax out the potential that they have, he said.

“Both children and seedlings requires a solid foundation for their roots and without these  basics needs, the plant nor the child can exist,” the DC added while appealing all to protect children from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and violence in their locality.

 

DC further also informed that the district administration is soon going to organize a programme to felicitate meritorious students of Class X and XII of this year’s CBSE examination, wherein the students will be given certificate along with cash award.

 

President IMWA, Yumlam Achung also highlighted the gathering on the Child Labour Act, impressing upon them to stop engaging small children in work and allow them to enjoy their childhood.

 

Resources persons, Advocate Ojam Binggep and Advocate cum Chairperson, CWC, Kani Nada said that the motive behind organizing the awareness campaign is to urge citizens to raise their voice and take action when they see vulnerable children, working children being exploited.

 

The duo also spoke on different perspectives and explained on child right, child protection policies, consequences and preventive measures etc and requested all the participants to take child related cases very sensitively and seriously.

 

During the programme, the public including the traders and shoppers were given awareness about the Child Labour Prohibition & Regulation Act, 1986 and emergency child line helpline no ‘1098’.
