ITANAGAR, Nov 20: The ‘indefinite hunger strike’ being staged by Tater Gao demanding cancellation and re-conduct of Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Combined Competitive Examination (APPSCCE) which entered its sixth day on Tuesday showed no sign of relenting despite appeal to withdraw the same by Government Spokesperson, Bamang Felix and Animal & Husbandry Minister Dr Mohesh Chai.
Following the direction of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Felix and Chai on Tuesday afternoon paid a formal visit to agitators here at IG park and interacted with them and heard their grievances.
The duo after a brief discussion appealed the students to withdraw their agitation on the ground that the case is still is still pending at the court.
Also clarifying that the Public Service Commission is constituted under the provisions of the Constitution of India and functions with both autonomy and freedom, the duo said that the state government has no authority to interfere in the functioning of the commission. They urged the protesters to call off the hunger strike and take up the issues to appropriate authority for redressal.
Interacting with press persons, Tater Gao affirmed to intensify their protest if no concrete action is initiated to address their grievances.
Overwhelmed by the support of various NGOs and Student unions, Tater appealed all to continue support for the cause saying ‘to raise awareness against corruption among masses is his true goal.’
Meanwhile, despite extreme food deprivation Tater continues to stay strong on Tuesday and, now joined by three more volunteers, Bengia Seema and Yomgam Pali and convener of Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Raj Sangathan, Jaya Joram, for an extended 24 hours hunger strike. On Monday, agitators convened a candlelight sit-in at the park wherein many speakers accused the Commission of unpreparedness and lack of transparency in conducting the examination.
In addition, the gathering also condemned the apex student body- the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) for being indifferent towards the aspirants and questioned the student’s representative body for not taking a stand for the aspirants.
