ITANAGAR, Oct 28: All Puroik Student’s Union(APSU) has urged the state government to functionalize the Autonomous Puroik Welfare Board (APWB) and to appoint its chairman from the Puroik community for its better development as per the norms.
Addressing a press conference, President APSU Sipa Yachu informed that the Board was created in 2017 but till date it has no proper functioning office. In the initial days an office was established in the State Civil Secretariat but after the inauguration it hasn't been used till date, he said.
Claiming that in the last three years at least four people were appointed to the post of chairman, Yachu questioned how can the board function if the chairman changes so frequently.
"Most of the chairman were top government officials already engaged with other works. Board will only serve its purpose if a genuine person from the Puroik community is appointed as the chairman with knowledge of the ground realities and who understands the sentiments and hardship confronting the community," he said.
He further urged the state government to release the amount sanctioned for the 120 Puroik families under Livelihood Generation activities of the Board. Yachu also sought immediate appointment of the first Puroik APCS officer Bopai Puroik as Member Secretary cum Director- APWB as per his transfer order failing which the union has threatened to launch a democratic movement.
