ITANAGAR, Apr 1: Expressing resentment over the recent collapse of the under-construction Bailey bridge over Kumey river in Tali Administrative Circle, the All Kra Daadi District Students' Union (AKDDSU) has appealed to the Chief Minister Pema Khandu to constitute a 'fact-finding committee' to investigate the matter within 10 days.
The committee should check the quality of work, material used and make the best technical analysis to unearth the reason behind the repeated collapse of the bridge, the union said. Addressing a press conference here at the Arunachal Press Club on Thursday, AKDDSU President Pakyum Talop recalled that the same bridge first collapsed in September 2019 within three months of its inauguration and again on March 28 this year. “The first collapse was attributed to natural calamity, but the reason behind the second collapse must be unearthed,” Talop said while adding that all those responsible should be booked under relevant sections of the law and punished accordingly. “The union and the people of Kra Daadi district demand that the executing agency and department concerned should issue a clarification to the public and come clear on its future course of action,” he said while appealing to the CM to intervene into the matter and monitor the functioning of the fact-finding committee.
“The people of the district have lost faith in local contractors. Therefore, a company having expertise in bridge construction must be hired by the department for the reconstruction,” AKDDSU President said while requesting the CM to visit the place of occurrence.
Earlier on March 31, the union submitted a memorandum to the CM requesting for the same.
