Rafters unanimous on Siang’s potential as ideal adventure tourism destination

PASIGHAT, Dec 29: The 20-member team of the Brahmaputra Aamantran Abhiyan (BAA) rafting expedition was accorded a warm welcome today in Raneghat by the East Siang District Administration led by DC Dr Kinny Singh and other officials.
Arrival of the team here marked the end of the Arunachal leg of the expedition which will culminate in Assam on January 21 next. Congratulating and felicitating the team for their remarkable achievement, the DC underscored the significance of the expedition in promoting the concept of ‘Living with the River’ for environmental awareness and river rejuvenation. “Rivers have always been the integral part of tribal customs and ways of life,” Dr Singh added. 
Some of the rafters while sharing their experiences along the Arunachal route said the mighty Siang with greenery all around and Class IV and V grade rapids is an ideal destination for  adventure lovers. The lone woman rafter of the team who hails from Delhi also shared her experiences saying that Siang/Brahmaputra are the toughest rivers to raft and possess great potential in the tourism sector. “The banks are clean unlike other rivers in the country and this has to be maintained,” she added.
Deputy Chief Engineer, Brahmaputra Board, Itanagar Gammo Kamki said the main objective of the rafting expedition is to spread  awareness among youths and students in particular and the communities in general  on river conservation and rejuvenation. District Tourism Officer Tate Tatak, District Art & Culture Officer Augusti Jamoh, NCC team, volunteers of Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) and District Youth Officer (NYK) Tapun Taki were among others present on the occasion.
BAA is organized by Brahmaputra Board under the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti with support from the government of Arunachal Pradesh and NDRF. With DIPRO inputs
