Nampong, Sep 3: Built at a whopping cost of Rs 3.53 crore, the Border Haat at Pangsau Pass international border pillar No 173 will be commissioned soon and it is expected to change and simplify the border trade completely.
The massive project is the upshot of local MLA Laisam Simai's dilligence and persistence as he was adamant to construct the border haat for elevating the local economy and generating alternative livelihood source for the natives. The project was sanctioned in 2016.
On the sidelines of recent Governor's visit, Simai appreciated the extraordinary efforts put up by DUDA Jairampur to conclude the construction works despite the obstacles thrown by nature every now and then.
Through his Facebook page, Simai also shared the appreciation extended by Governor Brig (Retd) Dr BD Mishra regarding the work quality and completion of the massive infrastructure at Pangsau Pass.
Simai expessed his optimism by stating that I'm extremely hopeful that the locals will extract maximum benefits from the opportunity that the border haat is going to open up for them.
DUDA DD George Joseph divulged that the delay to commission the project was caused due to natural calamities like landslide and roadblocks on regular basis. He also revealed that initially there was an internal border dispute with the locals which was sorted out before it created more hurdles.
The picturesque border haat will consist of 42 shops, large size ware house, dumping yard, security barrack, common toilet and a parking lot for trucks.
