ITANAGAR, Jan 30: ‘Readers Realm’, a book café with more than 200 titles spanning across various genres including children's books was inaugurated today at Ganga Market.
The cafe promises to offer its visitors a unique experience of reading books of their choice without actually having to buy them. Although visitors may opt to buy the book, creating a book reading trend among the younger generation is the main objective of the café.
Padmashree Mamang Dai who inaugurated ‘Readers Realm’ said the venture is a way forward towards creating a space for young people to come and read books and let them understand that reading is not only about academics and research. While opining that books, theatre and performing arts has a slow market, Dai however hoped that ventures of this kind will pave the way and act as encouragement for these fields. In her advice to the budding writers, Dai suggested them to continue reading books and keep a notebook in which they can write down their feelings, ideas or inspirations. Such entries come very handy as source material which one can further develop, she added.
Sharing her ideas of coming up with the bookstore, owner Higio Zargnam said: “We were very particular about having children's books.
I think we really need a space for kids and actually the inspiration came from an author from Bhutan who attended the Arunachal Literature Festival. She has a space in Bhutan where children can come and read with no compulsion to buy books.”
“We will also focus on Indian authors, because I myself don’t read Indian authors that much. But I believe we should and along with international titles we have ordered lots of titles from Indian and Northeast writers. Sadly, the publishing companies do not have these books in their stock currently and it’s expected to arrive within February,” Zargnam informed while welcoming the local authors to the store.
