SHILLONG, Jan 22: Governor Brig. (Dr) B. D Mishra (Retd.) accompanied by First Lady Neelam Misra and Chief Minister Pema Khandu today met Sela N Khathing, daughter of Major Ralengnao ‘Bob’ Khathing, the winner of the Military Cross in World War II here in the Meghalaya capital.
Speaking on the contributions of Late Major Khathing, Governor recalled that he was instrumental in establishing India’s administrative functioning over Tawang on  February 14, 1951. People of Arunachal Pradesh, especially the people of Tawang still remember Major Khathing with respect for being the sole Indian official to visit their place when the Chinese expansionist threat in the area was looming large, he said.  The Governor commended the Chief Minister for the decision of the state government to recognize the contributions of Major Khathing towards the people of Arunachal Pradesh by constructing his memorial. He informed that the foundation stone of the memorial would be laid on February 14 next, the day Major Khathing hoisted the tricolour in Tawang.
The Governor has invited the family members of Major Khathing to Arunachal Pradesh as state guests on the occasion.  PRO Raj Bhavan
