PASIGHAT, Mar 19: The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), East Siang unit led by its President Mipet Tayeng and General Secretary Ajay Saroh today led a peaceful rally demanding justice for the labourers in the district.
BMS, East Siang along with seven other unions of Asha and Anganwadi workers etc. carried out the rally covering areas like airfield, officers’ colony, High Region and culminated at the DC’s office wherein nearly one thousand workers joined demanding justice for the labourers and casual workers. The demands were equal pay for equal work, reservation for long-serving contingency/casual workers in recruitment of Group C and D posts, induction of representatives from BMS, East Siang in DPC Board etc. BMS East Siang President said there have been several cases where contingency/casual workers who have been giving services to the government for 10-20 years have not been regularized and instead fresh candidates have been appointed through backdoor entry. “We have requested the DC vide our petition submitted today to include the members of BMS in the DPC Board for recruitment of Group C and D posts as we know the seniority of the workers in all the departments,” Tayeng said. The Anganwadi and Asha workers conveyed the same grievances, adding that they have been made to work with meagre honorariums despite being used in all works.
The DC Dr. Kinny Singh has assured to forward the representation to the concerned departmental heads for speedy consideration. Regarding inclusion of BMS representatives in DPC Board for Group C and D posts, she assured them to issue a notification from her office, adding however that some of the matters are not under her authority.
