PASIGHAT, Jul 25: The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) East Siang Unit on Friday conducted a meeting of Asha and Anganwadi workers here at a hotel which was a part of the nationwide agitation from July 24-30 called by the BMS hierarchy in support of the ‘Sarkar Jagao Sabtah’ agenda.
The meeting was chaired by unit President Mipet Tayeng and participated by General Secretary Ajoy Saroh. Tayeng placed the demands of the central BMS to be fulfilled by the central and state government which comprised economic and employment related problems faced by the unorganized sector and migrant workers such as payment of wages during lockdown, refund of illegally-deducted wages, suspension of labour laws, halt to privatization of public sectors, creation of new employment avenues etc. Demand for treating the Anganwadi and Asha workers under mid-day meal & other schemes as government employees was also placed. While advocating the needs of the Asha and Anganwadi workers, BMS East Siang Unit appealed to the state government to declare both these segments of workers as government employees keeping in mind the extent of duties performed by them.
The Asha workers were led by their President, Parmoti Moyong, General Secretary Miti Osik and Anganwadi workers were led by Mumkong Megu and General Secretary Obi Moyong.
