Tawang, Feb 7: BJP nominee Tsering Lhamu is expected to win the February 27 by-poll to Lumla seat in Tawang district 'uncontested' as she was the sole candidate on the last day of filing of nominations today. Lhamu is the wife of Jambey Tashi, the sitting MLA whose death on November 2 last year necessitated the bye-election.
Though the Peoples’ Party of Arunachal (PPA), the lone regional political party of the state, had nominated a former village headman as its candidate, he withdrew from the race and did not file nomination.
An official release said that as per notifications of the Election Commission of India, the Returning Officer RD Thungon along with Assistant Returning Officer Tsering Choden waited in the chamber of RO for nominations from 11 am to 3 pm, but no candidate from any political party or independent turned up for filing nominations.
It said that so far Tsering Lhamu, the BJP candidate has filed her nomination twice – the first time the candidate herself along with proposer filed her nomination on February 2 and second time through her proposer on February 6.
Tuesday (7th February) was the last day for filing nominations for the Lumla bye-polls, slated for February 27.
As per the ECI poll schedule, scrutiny of nominations will be held on February 8, while the last date for withdrawal of candidatures is February 10.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed his gratitude to the people of Lumla constituency for their support to Lhamu.
“The people of Lumla have displayed a rare kind of love and affection for late brother Jambey Tashi. I am sure Smt Tsering Lhamu ji will not only carry forward the vision of Late Jambey ji but will also complete his unfinished projects dedicated to umla constituency,” Khandu tweeted.
