ITANAGAR, Dec 16: President, City Congress Committee, Itanagar Yumlam Achung today accused the ruling BJP of using money power to capture seats in the upcoming Panchayati Raj and Municipal elections in the state.
Responding to queries from reporters, Achung said democracy will not be healthy if there are no actual contests between candidates and money power is being used rampantly to capture seats.
“Such a practice will only encourage corruption as people will be deprived of their democratic right to choose the leaders of their choice,” the City Congress President opined, alleging that armed with financial strength, the BJP has forcefully acquired five corporator seats in Itanagar Municipal Corporation election as well as in many ZPM and GP seats across the state.
“Why is the BJP fearing to fight the elections?” he questioned, asserting that unless there are elections, good leaders will not come up in the state.
