PASIGHAT, Sep 30: As a part of the efforts initiated by the Public Health Engineering & Water Supply department and the East Siang District Administration to make the district plastic free, Bilat Circle has stood out from the rest of the crowd in terms of determination and commitment.
In a massive turn up at the Mirem Village Community Hall, a mass awareness campaign on Single Use Plastic (SUP) was organized by PHE & WS Department which was participated by Gaon Burahs, village secretaries, village leaders and several women Self Help Groups of Bilat Circle. Speakers from the villages like Mirem, Bilat, Ledum, Remi, Miglung and Mikong unanimously agreed to shun away the use of plastic on the appeal of Bilat Circle Officer, Oni Padun and the PHE & WS department.
The villagers were briefed about the negative impact of plastic on environment and human health by PHE & WS Pasighat Division Executive Engineer, Mijing Dupak, AE Tadung Padung, JE Yamoli Tatak, veteran singer, Delong Padung, State Board for Wildlife Member, M. Tayeng and ADC (HQ), Tatdo Borang etc. Attending the programme as Chief Guest, Tatdo Borang said that it is the need of the hour to awake and know the side effects of plastic.
“We need to stop regular use of plastic in our daily life while also stop hunting and destroying forest. People of Bilat Circle need to show the way by becoming the first Circle to go plastic free,” added Borang.
