NAHARLAGUN, Nov 5: The 7th death anniversary of legendary Assamese singer and Dadasaheb Phalke Award winner Dr. Bhupen Hazarika was observed in a befitting function organized by ‘Kristi Kendra, here today. Floral tribute were offered to the music maestro by the Assamese and Arunachalee people and remembered him by singing and performing his popular songs which transcended the barriers of caste, creed, religion and region. 
Attending the function,  Bengia Hemanta, a noted singer and social worker of Arunachal Pradesh, and close associate of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika shared his memories with ‘Bhupen Da’ during  making of the first film of Arunachal Pradesh ‘Mera Dharam Meri Ma’ by the music maestro and enthralled the gathering with his melodious rendition.
Dr. Jamuna Bini, Asstt. Professor of Rajiv Gandhi University expressed that the new generation is unfortunate for being deprived of Bhupen Hazarika’s association but it is pleasant that his legacy of priceless creations is being carried forward by the people. 
Dr. Pekba Ringu, a noted writer and physician by profession, paid tribute to the great singer by singing a few lines of Hazarika’s song and explained how the legendary singer endeared the Arunachalee people by his unbounded love and songs composed on Arunachal Pradesh. He recollected how the presence of Bhupen Hazarika in the early 70’s in the functions of JN College, Pasighat was a must which tied the strong bond between the people of Assam and Siang sector of Arunachal Pradesh. 
Jalley Sonam, Chairman, APB&OCWWB, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh, who attended the function said that Dr. Bhupen Hazarika is more an Arunachalee than Assamese and his songs tried to unite not only Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, but also the entire north eastern states and people of Arunachal Pradesh always feel proud of him and his creations. He appealed to the Government of Arunachal Pradesh that the State Government observe the death anniversary of the music maestro in a befitting manner.      
Other attractions of the function were songs presented by Dr Sukumar Baishya, Professor of NERIST,  Ramen Nath and Gargi Nath of Kristi Kendra, performance of group dance by children of Kristi Kendra , etc.
