SEPPA, Apr 30: The Bhikshu Sangha of Gontse Gaden Rabgye Ling Monastery, Bomdila today felicitated Environment and Forest Minister Mama Natung here at his residence as a token of appreciation for initiating the Arunachal Airgun Surrender Abhiyaan (AASA).
The members of the Sangha led by Ven. Dondup Tsering Khen Rinpoche, GRL Monastery Bomdila along with Ven Lama Kalsang, its Administrator and Ven. Phassang Tsering conferred a Certificate of Appreciation and a traditional handicraft item (table) to the Minister as a mark of respect. Rinpoche appreciated the Minister for his efforts to protect and preserve the state’s wildlife. “There are teachings in Buddhism about non-violence and to love and preserve every living creature and so it is praiseworthy to mentioned that being a Minister you have taken a noble decision to preserve wildlife,” Rinpoche said.
Extending gratitude to the Rinpoche and his team who came all the way from Bomdila, Natung said it is high time to protect and preserve the state’s flora and fauna. He also informed the Rinpoche that at least 900 airguns have been surrendered till date and people are still surrendering voluntarily. Minister also added that very soon the government will initiate a campaign for license guns in the state.
Referring to the menace of drug abuse Natung informed that the department of Sports & Youths Affairs will start a campaign  soon named ‘Drugs Choro- Khel se Joro’ to exhort the state’s youths to embrace sporting activities instead of falling prey to drugs.
He also urged the Rinpoche and his team to extend support from their end in creating awareness on drug abuse in society.
