ITANAGAR, Dec 5: A Radon Geo-Station developed indigenously by Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), has been installed at Arunachal University of Studies (AUS), Namsai on Sunday. Two scientists from BARC visited AUS to oversee installation of the geo-station, which is the first of its kind to be deployed in Arunachal Pradesh.
The Radon Geo-Station of AUS will be instrumental in obtaining early signatures related to seismic activity over the regions of eastern Arunachal Pradesh in the Districts of Longding, Tirap, Changlang, Anjaw, Lohit, Namsai, Lower Dibang Valley, Dibang Valley, East Siang, Upper Siang and Siang, 12 Districts of Assam and 4 Districts of Nagaland. Under this project BARC will also be installing three more Radon Geo-Stations in Arunachal Pradesh.
The Faculty of Science and Technology of AUS under the able leadership of visionary Vice Chancellor Prof. B. Mohan Kumar has initiated process of establishing contact with Arunachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority for the establishment of a full-fledged seismic telemetry network centre on its campus for monitoring seismological activities in the region and preparing database for advanced seismological research. 
This solar powered stand-alone geostation will transmit radon data directly to central station at BARC. AUS faculty members will monitor the data regularly, said Director Science and Technology Dr. Rani Jha.
