ROING, Nov 10: The month-long skill development training on ‘Bamboo Handicrafts’ organized by ‘AMYAA’, a local NGO, for the unemployed youths of Lower Dibang Valley district concluded here at the NGO’s training centre on Saturday.
Sponsored by the Small Industry Development Bank of India (SIDBI), the programme aimed at providing a platform for the rural youths to improve their livelihoods. Additional Deputy Commissioner, T Pertin who attended the valedictory function as chief guest, encouraged the trainees to be consistent in developing the skills learned. “Since Arunachal has huge bamboo resources, aspiring entrepreneurs can make maximum use of the same by starting small bamboo handicraft units of their own in their respective villages,” ADC said while assuring all possible support from District Administration. AMYAA Secretary, R K Paul Chawang expressed satisfaction over the enthusiasm shown by trainees and assured them all possible support from their end like approaching the banks and government.
Around 30 youths were trained in a variety of bamboo handicrafts by master artisans from Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA). After training, the youths are now capable of making bamboo mugs, mobile and pen stands, key bunch, mobile docks, earrings, trays, candle stands and jewellery boxes etc. It is pertinent to mention that Arunachal occupies an important position among the bamboo bearing states of the country having around 46 bamboo species with Poaceae and Arecaceae being the main ones.
