BALIJAN, Jul 24: At a time when the state is reeling under the burden of rising Covid-19 cases, Balijan area in Papum Pare district is a rare exception since it has maintained its corona-free status till date.
Expressing elation over this achievement, SDPO, Balijan Dekio Gumja on Friday attributed this to the “united efforts of the frontline workers backed by a proactive community support system.” “The people of Balijan are not only supportive but they are proactive too. The PRIs leaders, youth organisations including the villagers have wholeheartedly helped the authorities in bringing down the number of cases to zero,” Dekio underlined.
It is worth mentioning that apart from a Gujurat returnee who was also discharged after testing negative, the area saw no new positive cases and has remained corona-free till date. The SDPO praised all the Covid heroes of Balijan while briefing the media on the partial self-lockdown imposed by the locals. On the security scenario, he said that enough police and security personnel are being deployed to control various nakas and check gates at Hollongi, Balijan and Sandupota.
"The Circle Officer Tarasso and his team with the support of the health department are doing a commendable job in raising awareness along the inter-state boundary," Dekio disclosed. He also cited the viral video wherein a doctor identified as S.Borua of PHC Taraso deputed on contact tracing can be seen crossing the flooded seasonal river in Balijan. “Everyone from frontline workers to villagers are giving their best efforts to stop transmission of the virus in their respective jurisdictions," he noted. On safety measures, Dekio mentioned that police personnel deputed on Covid-19 duties have been briefed since day one to maintain at least 6-foot distancing, check the IDs of persons not wearing masks, maintain distancing and all other SOPs. “These basic guidelines are being followed strictly by the police personnel in Balijan.
Their strict adherence to these safety rules may be the reason that no police personnel from Balijan has tested positive even after delivering duties at PTC-QF at Banderdewa," he said.
