ITANAGAR, Mar 12: Arunachal Pradesh today joined the rest of the nation in launching the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, a series of events planned by the Central government to be conducted over the next 75 weeks for commemorating India’s 75th year of independence. The opening day also coincided with the launch of the historic Dandi March, spearheaded by Mahatma Gandhi 91 years back on March 12, 1930.
Governor joins celebrations
Governor Brig. (Dr) B. D. Mishra (Retd.) who is also a member of the National Committee for the celebrations participated in the Dandi March memorial event at Niglok, East Siang district accompanied by various public leaders including local MLA Ninong Ering, officials, youths, students and people from all walks of life. While exhorting the state’s people to participate in the celebrations with enthusiasm, he recalled the contribution of freedom fighter Matmur Jamoh, a son of Arunachal who refused to bow down to the Britishers and breathed his last at the Cellular Jail in Andaman where he was confined after killing a British officer. Arunachalees had substantially contributed to India's freedom struggle, he said while reiterating the need to make aware the present generation of the history of sacrifice.
ICR
The state capital witnessed a series of events on the day conducted by various departments. To mark the anniversary of the historic salt satyagraha, the Department of Education enacted the Dandi March in the morning from the Dera Natung Government College campus to Akashdeep complex and back.
Dressed in traditional attire, more than 300 volunteers from Assam, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, besides host Arunachal Pradesh participated in the march. The NSS volunteers from the entire Northeast region are here in the capital to participate in the Northeast NSS Festival which aims at spreading awareness among the masses on the significance of the historic day along with other important issues currently faced by society.
The Capital District Administration conducted a painting competition on the theme ‘Pictorial Scene of Dandi March’ in all government secondary and government higher secondary schools in the ICR to mark the occasion.
BEO Nabam Shelly informed that approximately 700 students participated in the event. Along with the painting competition, a symposium on India’s freedom struggle amongst the higher secondary students and an essay competition on the same theme for secondary level students were also conducted.
In a separate event, DIPR in collaboration with Regional Outreach Bureau, conducted a photo exhibition on the freedom fighters at the DK Convention Centre which focused mainly on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Sarojini Naidu among others.
A good number of people turned up at the exhibition. Secretary, Tax & Excise Anirudh S. Singh was the chief guest.
West Siang
In West Siang, as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, a 5.2 km ‘March For Freedom and Unity’ was organised by the District Administration in Aalo which was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Moki Loyi. 
Heads of offices, citizens and students turned up for the run that started from Gumin Kiin to Kabu and back, led by an IPR vehicle that played patriotic songs through its PA system. An essay writing competition was also conducted in all colleges and schools across the district.  
Tawang
A colourful cultural programme followed by distribution of prizes to the winners of an essay writing competition marked the celebrations in Tawang district.                                            
HoDs, officials and teachers from various government schools and Dorjee Khandu Government College participated in the inaugural programme. DC Sang Phuntsok distributed prizes to the students.
Lohit
Celebrations in Lohit district were conducted in Tezu wherein Deputy Commissioner Marge Sora flagged off a bicycle rally from the Jubilee Ground. A painting competition on the theme was also organised throughout the district for the secondary and higher secondary school students.
Siang
Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav commenced in the district by remembering the martyrs of the 1911 Anglo Abor from the very historical place of Kekar Monyin in Rottung.
Minister, Health & Family Welfare Alo Libang and MLA 35th Pangin AC Ojing Tasing graced the occasion as chief guest and guest of honour respectively. A demand for recognising the martyrdom of the Adis through construction of a war memorial in Kekar Monying was also raised by various speakers.
Secretary, Art & Culture Remo Kamki, DC Rajiv Takuk, BJP State General Secretary Nalong Mize were among others present on the occasion.
Lower Subansiri
The District Administration observed the day by reaching out to the most deprived sections of society.
Deputy Commissioner Somcha Lowang accompanied by officials visited the Grace Rehabilitation Centre run by Apatani Baptist Association, Ziro and the Mother’s Home for the destitute at Achu Kuru.
The DC interacted with the inmates and caretakers and distributed sweets and ration to the centres. Schools across the district also participated in the celebrations through orations and singing of 'Sare Jahan Se Achha'. The DA has chalked out a series of activities to be undertaken till 15th August 2022 as a part of the celebrations.
Tirap
A district level coordination meeting was convened today by Deputy Commissioner, Tirap Taro Mize at the Kamlesh Joshi Conference Hall of DC’s office, Khonsa to fine-tune the preparations for Azaadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav celebrations. It was decided that a statue of Mahatma Gandhi will be unveiled at the tri-junction in the district headquarters through voluntary contributions from the officials.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched the Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav by flagging off the 25-day long iconic Dandi March from Sabarmati Ashram, Ahmedabad. The nation-wide 75-week long celebrations will culminate on the Independence Day of 2022. PRO Raj Bhavan, DIPRO
