DCM reviews hydropower projects to strengthen state energy roadmap
ITANAGAR, Dec 5: The Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs conducted an awareness programme on Consumer Protection here today at Kendra Vidyalaya.
The programme started with demonstration of weighing instruments through which sellers could possibly manipulate fraudulently followed by practical demonstration on food adulteration by Assistant Controller, KP Tago. He suggested participating students and staff of Kendra Vidyalaya, Itanagar to be careful at the time of purchasing day to day requirements so that shops do not deliver short in quantity or sub-standard quality products.
Inspector Gamkhong Singpho briefed with demonstration on how accuracy of commercial weights and measures are being maintained through periodical verification by the Department of Legal Metrology for the protection of common consumers. He also gave tips on how to contain the practice of giving short delivery at petrol station as well as adulteration of petroleum products by conducting simple test with filter papers.
He further briefed on packaged products and on mandatory information as required under the law with special reference to MRP and expiry dates. He insisted consumers to read the mandatory information of commodities in packaged form particularly the edible or medicine items before buying the products so as to remain safe.
Similarly tips regarding LPG cylinder and mandatory requirement of toxic label marks in pesticide products as well as imitation of products were dwelt upon.
Earlier, similar programme was conducted at Government Secondary school, Nirjuli and Kendra Vidyalaya, Naralagun.
