The District Health Society in collaboration with CSIR- Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad, Karnataka conducted an awareness campaign on malaria and other vector borne diseases at the community hall, Hanoko Hong village on Friday.


Attending the program as chief guest, Parliamentary Secretary Food and Civil Supplies Er. Tage Taki commended the efforts of the District Health Society in creating awareness on various vector borne diseases as with the onset of the monsoon these diseases multiply. 

He advised the public to protect themselves from mosquito bites by using repellents and wearing long sleeved shirts while going out into the jungle. Highlighting the importance of Mission Indradhanush program, he appealed all to ensure that their children avail the benefits of this immunization program. 

He further requested DMO to conduct village wise blood pressure checkups before the festival season as the consumption of alcohol is at peak in this period and people with pressure problems will be able to monitor their intake. 

Deputy Commissioner Kemo Lollen stressed on the need to begin Swaach Bharat Abhiyan from our homes by keeping the surroundings clean. IEC programs should be regularly carried out to create awareness on health and hygiene issues, he added. 

Underscoring the importance of ASHAs in community health, DMO Dr. Tage Kano said that ASHAs should also actively involve in motivating the villagers to keep their surroundings clean. 

Dr. Srinivasa Rao and Dr. Madhu Sudan, scientists doing research on malaria in endemic areas all over Arunachal Pradesh for the past ten years also attended the program and distributed long lasting insecticide nets to the villagers.
