ITANAGAR, Dec 29: After almost three weeks since the release of press statement by All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) which 'informed' that state government would be clarifying its stand on the vexed Chakma-Hajong refugee issue within a couple of days CAA receives the President’s assent, communication in this regard from the Chief Minister’s office is still awaited.
Speaking to this reporter over phone, Vice President (Admin) AAPSU Meje Taku said, “We were against the CAA since day one and kept constant touch with the CMO and as per information Chief Minister is currently out of station resulting in a delay in the communication. However, we are expecting the clarification very soon and if unsatisfied, AAPSU will pursue its stand of resorting to democratic movement,” he asserted.
Chairperson of the state’s oldest regional political party, People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) Kamen Ringu said that PPA’s sole motive is to protect the Jal(Water) Zameen (Land) and  Jungle (Forest) and we are against those who want to grab our resources by imposing rules.
“Arunachal should not be divided for any kind of political gain or vote bank,” said Ringu.
When asked about Inner Line Permit (ILP), he stated that ILP is only a regulation and state government need to make it an Act and implement strongly.
Moreover, when indigenous people are barred from entering the forests, the Chakmas and Hajongs don’t even require ILP and are engaged in destroying our nature in reserve forest areas, Ringu alleged. He also added that government is providing all kind of facilities to them as per laid down norms even when they are encroaching our lands. “Refugees are protected by international Human Rights agencies but for indigenous people, there are no agencies and this is how they are getting marginalized in their own land. Already more than 19 lakh people in Assam are out of NRC and these people will surely seek refuge in other neighbouring states including Arunachal Pradesh,” PPA Chairperson vented concern.
Earlier, during the ‘Flag March’ against CAA being organized by Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), former MP (West) Takam Sanjoy questioned the State government for being mute on the Chakma-Hajong issue. While slamming the state government, Sanjoy stated that CAA is a draconian law which is terrible for the people of Northeast and is undemocratic and communal.
