ITANAGAR, Aug 23: A consumer rights awareness programme was carried out by Consumer Right Organization (CRO) at Dorjee Khandu State Convention Hall here today. The programme was supported by the Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Affairs.
Though Chief Minister Pema Khandu was supposed to grace the occasion as chief guest, but due to certain pressing engagements he could not attend the function. Instead, Nabam Rebia, Minister for Urban Development, Town Planning, etc. attended as chief guest. In his address, Rebia said today the consumers are protected by statutes and it is their duty to seek their rights. At the same time, he advised the people that while asserting their rights they should also fulfill their duties as responsible citizens.
Gamburahs of different sectors of Papum Pare district were present, who were made aware of the rights of a consumer and healthy eating habits. The event was followed by a panel discussion where various topics were raised on the fixed Maximum Retail Price (MRP) and the role of Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Affairs. The audience consisted of students from various colleges including, DN college, Don Bosco College, NERIST and Rajiv Gandhi University.
Achu Bagang, the state president of CRO, said he plans on working closely with the Department of Legal Metrology Department and Consumer Affairs and create consumer awareness among the people of the state. He added there’s an extensive lack of manpower and resources in the Metrology Department and Consumer Rights which drove him to join CRO. The State Government should provide a helping hand for such efforts, he added.
