BORDUMSA, Aug 10: In yet another episode, Assam administration entered into Arunachal territory and erected electricity poles at Uchabam village under Bordumsa circle in Changlang district.
Making the claim, local villagers have sought the intervention of the state government for an immediate solution to the Arunachal –Assam boundary dispute in the area.
The traditional boundary is Kherem Pani or Kherem River, but Assam administration entered into the Arunachal side and erected electricity poles, informed Gaon Burah of Kherem Kasari village. The area has been under Arunachal Forest Department but for the last many years Assam has started to claim the area, he said. Road under MGNREGA has been constructed by the Arunachal Government but despite that Assam is intruding in the area by erecting electricity poles and conducting a census, stated the GB.
We don’t want any confrontation or any untoward incident in the area so the boundary issue should be solved amicably and immediately, urged the GB.
When contacted, ADC Bordumsa T Jerang, stated ‘it is a classic case of old encroachment which started way back in 1975-1980.'
“Few families from Assam came up to Koriapani reserve area and since then they have lived there. And our forest department has been unable to evict them,” he said.
The ADC further informed that the electric pole was erected to supply power to these few families from Assam living in Arunachal land.
