ITANAGAR, Sep 8: “Arunachal is very much a part of India and I have a belief that nobody can claim themselves to be more Indian than an Arunachalee,” said the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) General Secretary, Kaling Jerang in response to China's claims that the state is part of South Tibet.
Jerang said as every Arunachalee is very much attached to the Indian culture and grew up with Indian history and ways of living, and it is irrational on the part of China to claim Arunachal as a part of Tibet. “You will not find any place or school in the state where children are not found singing ‘Jana Gana Mana’ and ‘Vande Mataram' and only a few similarities in looks and expressions do not make us Chinese,” the PPA GS said, adding that China can never claim Arunachal as its land.
Talking on the ongoing tension between the two countries, Jerang said there should be more bilateral dialogues and the Indian government should step up measures to raise awareness among people living across the border so that peace can be maintained. He also cautioned that it is necessary to avoid making loose comments as tension is already high.
“There have been skirmishes in Ladakh too and I am expecting such incidents within the boundaries of Arunachal also, but hope such situations are not allowed to escalate,” Jerang observed.
