ITANAGAR, Mar 2: Arunachal Pradesh has decided to take up last mile digital connectivity on mission mode and extend all possible support to the Telecom Service Providers (TSPs).
Chairing the State Broadband Committee (SBC) meeting, Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, while reviewing the implementation of the National Broadband Mission, acknowledged poor digital connectivity is a hindrance for ease of doing business even in the government sector. The fiberization, additional towers, fiberization of telecom towers, and mapping of fiber should begin in remote areas at the earliest, he said.
In order to assist the DoT, he directed the State Remote Sensing Application Center, Itanagar to prepare a satellite-based village Master Plan for Optical Fiber Cable to connect the circle headquarters with the district headquarters through broadband connectivity.
He further requested the TSPs in the state to upgrade their 3G network services to 4G Services for experiencing better telecom and broadband services. In this connection matters will be taken up with the Government of India.
He informed the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) that permission has already been accorded for use of street electric poles for Small Cell and Aerial OFC in the State.
In order to strengthen the connectivity in International Borders, the Chief Secretary asked the DoT representatives to find feasible ways to provide communications in international border areas in the northern Arunachal under the Universal Service Obligation Fund of the DoT, Ministry of Communication, GOI.
As per the latest report the Broadband Connectivity in villages is 60 % with 2211 uncovered villages.
Commissioner PWD/Power Kaling Tayeng, Secretary IT Anirudh Singh, Secretary UD Mitali Namchoom, Souvick Kr. Das and H.L. Nongkhlaw of DoT, GOI (Arunachal Pradesh), General Manager BSNL Arung Siram, General Manager BBNL Arung Siram, DG DIPA T.R. Dua, Kshem Kapoor COAI among others were present in the meeting.
