ITANAGAR, Feb 9: Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar today convened a meeting here at his office chamber in the Civil Secretariat to discuss the prospect of collaboration with Kripa Foundation for drug de-addiction and rehabilitation initiatives in Arunachal Pradesh.

After a detailed discussion the need for setting up a rehabilitation centre in the state was acknowledged and it was decided that the existing de-addiction centre in Namsai can be developed into a full-fledged rehabilitation centre for drug addicts trying to return to mainstream life. It was further decided that an educational module inclusive of life skills will be introduced in secondary and senior secondary school curricula with an objective to educate the students about the ill effects of drugs. The identified medical practitioners, technical counsellors and supporting staff will undergo an exposure visit to Kripa Foundation centres in Kohima and Shillong to have first-hand information of the environment and details of the set-up.

Director and Managing Trustee, Kripa Foundation Fr. Cajetan D. Menezes, Regional Director, Kripa Foundation, Kohima Abou Mere, it’s Kohima centre Coordinator Bendang Imsong, Secretary Health P. Partibhan, Joint Secretary Mamta Riba, Project Director, APSACS Dr. Riken Riba and other senior officials of the Health & Family Welfare Department were present in the meeting.

Kripa Foundation is an NGO engaged in drug addiction treatment and affiliated with the Union Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment with centres in Guwahati, Kohima, and Shillong. As per its reports, a good number of addicted youths from Arunachal Pradesh come to Kohima and Shillong centres for post-addiction treatment and rehabilitation purposes on a regular basis. PRO CS
