ITANAGAR, Apr 25: After passing through a long phase spanning several months when there were no cases of deaths due to Covid-19, Arunachal Pradesh saw two casualties on Saturday night and Sunday morning, taking the casualty tally to 58. This was informed by the Health Department through Sunday’s State Covid bulletin. Both the deaths occurring in Lower Dibang Valley district had past histories of comorbidities, one an 82-year old female and the other a 56-year old female. The 82-year-old female suffered from a past history of hypertension and tested positive for Covid on April 24 after reporting symptoms of fever and cough for the previous 3 days. After being treated in Roing, her condition worsened leading to death on Saturday night. The 56-year old female also had comorbidities of hypertension and diabetes and was under medication for liver disease. She tested Covid-19 positive on April 18 last and was under home isolation. As the symptoms worsened on April 20, she was admitted to DCHC Roing. As her condition worsened with escalation of breathing problems on April 24, she was referred to DCH Pasighat and despite all efforts passed away there on Sunday morning.
Except for the distressing news of deaths, the state’s Covid situation has improved substantially with just 70 news cases recorded till Sunday evening. It can be recalled that on Saturday there were 116 additions and a day earlier it was 134. Among the 70 new cases (asymptomatic 50; symptomatic 20), LDV has the highest count with 20 followed by ICR 13, West Kameng 12, Papum Pare 8, Tawang 7, Changlang 5, Namsai 2 and 1 each from Pakke Kessang, Upper Subansiri and Lower Siang. The state’s total active caseload is now 581. Meanwhile, recoveries/discharges have also improved from Saturday’s 19 to 28 on Sunday (ICR 14; West Kameng 11; LDV 2 and Lohit 1), taking the state’s total recovery/discharge count to 16968. 2365  samples were collected on the day and district-wise major collections were: Papum Pare 828, ICR 556, West Kameng 177, LDV 129, Namsai 114, Lohit 101, East Siang 85, Changlang 85, Longding 90 and West Siang 54. So far as the current occupancy status at Covid facilities is concerned, there are 20 Covid patients at DCH Chimpu, 3 at DCHC Midpu, 3 at DCH Pasighat and 4 at DCHC.
