ITANAGAR, Jun 1: Arunachal recorded its biggest single day spike of 18 coronavirus positive cases on Monday. With this the total number of active cases has reached 21.
Today 18 samples tested Covid positive, informed Dr L Jampa, State Surveillance Officer-IDSP in a official statement.
Of the latest figures, 16 patients are from Changlang district who have returned from Haryana via Delhi. One from Tawang with travel history to Delhi and one from Namsai who returned from Chennai.
As per the report, 51 people from Changlang district are in institutional quarantine and have returned from Red Zone area. The swab test were collected on May 25 last and sent to Delhi for examination as the nearest testing center ICMR Dibrugarh was overloaded. The results came today and 16 persons were found positive.
All are asymptomatic and under observation at COVID care center. As per sources, a one-year-old baby is also amongst the 16 positive cases. Contact tracing is going on to trace out all the people who have traveled or came in contact with them during the journey.
The 26 -year-old person from Namsai is also asymptomatic who returned to the state from Chennai on May 23 last. He traveled along with six others from Lohit District. Officials have begun contact tracing. The person is healthy and under strict observation.
When contacted over phone, Namsai DC RK Sharma said the district has registered about 2000 returnees from all over the country out of which 600 had already reached. “We are keeping track of the returnees, but all of them will have to compulsorily undergo institutional quarantine followed by a 14-day home quarantine after arrival of swab test results to avoid community spread of the virus,” DC said.
“After the result came out positive yesterday from ICMR Dibrugarh we have traced the patient who is currently under isolation at District Hospital Namsai,” DC revealed. He further stated that although the case is positive, there is nothing to worry at the moment as the patient is asymptomatic, fit and healthy. He also appealed the citizens not to panic and follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for containing the spread of the pandemic.
When contacted, Medical Superintendent Dr A Wailong assured that the District Hospital has all the basic facilities to handle any surge in cases and the manpower is also adequately trained and prepared. With DIPRO inputs
