ITANAGAR, Oct 2: Along with the rest of the nation, the 151th birth anniversary of the Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi was observed all across Arunachal Pradesh with dignity on Friday.
The day coincided with the 1st anniversary of Hamara Arunachal Abhiyan (HAA), the commemoration event of which was observed here at the Siddhartha Hall graced by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and Home Minister Bamang Felix.
Congratulating the Home Minister and his Team HAA for completing one year, Mein lauded them for coming up with efforts for building a cohesive atmosphere in the state by bringing together common people and administration. “The initiative taken by the youth volunteers of HAA towards cleanliness by organizing cleanliness drives in various places are praiseworthy,” he said and hoped the movement will continue in the same zeal in coming years. “Covid-19 is going to stay with us for long and we must learn to live with it and the most important lesson it has taught us is to be self-reliant. We have to start learning to use our own resources and for us our land is the biggest resource,” Mein added.
While emphasizing on agriculture and allied activities to attain self-sufficiency in food and vegetables, he urged the state’s farming community to make optimum utilization of the vast land resources. “Arunachal has the potential to become the Fruit Bowl of India if we adopt professional ways of agriculture,” the DCM asserted. Recalling the contributions of the former Chief Ministers, Mein said the present government under leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu has prioritized all-round development and introduced various welfare schemes for inclusive growth and development in the last five years. While paying homage to the Mahatma, Mein recalled his contributions for a 'Swachh Bharat'. Highlighting the one-year journey of HAA, Felix appealed to all to continue giving support to the movement for a clean, green and safe Arunachal. He announced that under it, 1 lakh trees will be planted in the state, adding that with the objective of transforming agriculture into a sustainable enterprise, 2 lakh hectare land in the ICR has been identified to grow organic produce to support the farmers for becoming self-reliant. Mein also gave away the Awards to the best-performing Ward/Sector and Certificates of Merit to the officials and volunteers of HAA.
Earlier, the DCM accompanied by the Home Minister, DC ICR Komkar Dolum and SP Tumme Amo released the Annual Report and an audio-visual record of the activities of HAA and released the garbage jingles of IMC. Later, he administered a pledge to maintain personal hygiene and cleanliness for a Swacch Arunachal. A dazzling display of song ‘Hamara Arunachal’ by Team HAA was an added attraction of the day.
