ITANAGAR, Mar 19: A team of officers from the Department of Trade and Commerce, led by its Director, Sonyung Modi visited Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Gujarat and Maharashtra as a part of a study tour from March 15-18. The study tour has been conducted for the officers to have a broad idea about setting up of SEZ and its functioning in the backdrop of the Arunachal government's decision to set up a SEZ in Balinong in Changlang District. 
In Gujarat, the team interacted with officials and visited two SEZs, namely, Gujarat International Financial Tec or GIFT City in Gandhi Nagar which is India's first International Financial Services Centre and Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation's (GIDC) Apparel Park in Ahmedabad which is dedicated for apparel manufacturing for export. The team also interacted with the representatives of various manufacturing units running in the SEZs for export.
In Maharashtra, the team was received by the officers of Zonal Development Commissioner, Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone (SEEPZ) SEZ and given a power point presentation on various export enabling infrastructures developed in the SEZ and functioning of SEZ. Later the team has visited Two SEZs both located in Mumbai, namely, Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone (SEEPZ) which is dedicated for Electronics and Jewellery Manufacturing for Export and Festus Properties Private Limited, a private SEZ which is dedicated for IT Services for export. The team also interacted with the representatives of various manufacturing units running in the SEZ regarding their success stories on export.
Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is a specially marked territory or enclave within a country that is typically duty free and has different business and commercial laws mainly to encourage investment and create employment. The products and services of SEZ are basically meant for export only.
