ITANAGAR, Jun 21: The 5th International Day of Yoga was celebrated today in a befitting manner and with great enthusiasm all across Arunachal Pradesh along with the rest of the nation and world.
Governor of the state Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) and First Lady Neelam Mishra while participating in IDY programme at National Institute of Technology Yupia campus appealed people irrespective of region, religion and beliefs to adopt yoga for a healthy body and mind. Gandhi Study Centre was the organiser of the programme and Yoga Instructor, Seva Ashram, Lekhi Village, Naharlagun Mridul Gogoi and his group conducted the yoga session.  Director NIT, Professor Pinakeshwar Mahanta was present on the occasion.
Students, faculty and staff of NIT, students from North Eastern Regional Institute of Technology (NERIST), Rajiv Gandhi University and Don Bosco College Jullang, officers from District Police & Administration along with a large number of people participated in the programme.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu joined his cabinet colleagues, legislators, officers and staff of the State Civil Secretariat to celebrate IDY at capital this morning with Lobsang Drema, a certified yoga exponent as the instructor. He said that yoga should be taken up as a ‘Jan Andolan’ and spread to the villages for a healthy society. More than a thousand officers and officials including Chief Secretary Satya Gopal performed various asanas.
Department of Health & Family Welfare celebrated International Yoga Day here at IG Park in collaboration with Capital Complex District Administration where people from all walks of life including government employees and school children actively participated in huge numbers in the yoga session.
Highlighting the importance of the day, Minister Health and Family Welfare Alo Libang stressed on adopting yoga as a way of life especially for the younger generation to attain better concentration and memory. Secretary Health & Family Welfare Juhi Mukherjee reminded the usefulness of yoga for combating lifestyle induced diseases like heart ailment, blood pressure etc.
Capital Complex DA also organised programmes in various schools with an aim to make the students right from Primary to Higher Secondary level aware of the importance of the day. Capital Complex DC Vikram Singh Malik, MLA Boleng, Ojing Tasing and Director, Health Services M Lego were also present.
IDY 2019 was celebrated by NCC Combined Annual Training Camp which is currently underway at capital’s RGGP College with around 410 cadets and 30 NCC personnel participating in the event. A blood donation camp was also organised by Red Cross team where a total of 10 Instructors and 60 Cadets donated blood. Overall, around 1500 NCC Cadets of 1 AP Bn NCC participated in IDY functions at their respective schools/colleges throughout the state.  
Papum pare
IYD was celebrated at Indoor Stadium Yupia with great enthusiasm, organized by the District AYUSH Mission Society. Yoga instructor from ‘Art of Living’, Itanagar taught Suryanamaskar and basic postures to the participants which comprised of HoDs, general public, school children from Upper Primary School Yupia, Government Girls’ Residential School Nyorch and ITBP jawans.  
District Medical Officer, Dr. Subu Tasso Kampu, Additional Deputy Commissioner Tabang Budong, DANO-cum-DAMS Dr. Tania Raju were also present on the occasion.
East  siang
Celebrating the day, people from all walks of life including officials, students of Donyi Polo Vidya Niketan (DPVN) and followers of Om-Shanti enthusiastically participated in the programme organised in  Engo Takar Hall at Pasighat. District Health Society conducted yoga camp headed by the DC Dr. Kinny Singh. Prakalp Pramukh, DPVN, Pasighat RP Sharma also spoke on the occasion. SP Prashant Gautam organized a session at IRBn Camp (Drill Shed) 2-Mile, Pasighat.
Upper Siang
The main programme of the district was arranged at the Multipurpose Community Hall of Yingkiong with more than 717 people participating in a yoga session.
Deputy Commissioner, Karma Leki appealed all participants to practice yoga for a better future. DMO, Dr. Dubom Bagra explained how a host of diseases of prolonged nature like hypertension, diabetes, joint pain, mental tension can be kept at bay through practice of daily yoga. Member Secretary District AYUSH Society Dr. Nabo Borang was also present.
Meanwhile, IYD was celebrated in other parts of the district such as Tuting, Mariyang, Geku and Jengging where prominent persons, HGBs/GBs and people from respective Gram Panchayats took part.
Tawang
In Tawang, the venue of the celebration was Gyalwa Tsangyang Gyatso High Altitude Stadium Tawang organised by District Sports Authority and Health Department in collaboration with District Administration.
Tawang MLA Tsering Tashi while stressing on the importance of Yoga, informed the gathering that a three-month yoga camp will be organized soon for the people of Tawang. DC Sang Phuntsok informed that yoga practice session will continue further for a week and appealed all to participate and make use of it.
ITBP jawans with DIG ITBP R.N Singh, NCC Cadets with CO 2nd NCC Bn Col. R.Shekhawat
participated in the programme. Programmes were also arranged at Lungla, Jang, other administrative circles of the district, VKV Kyidphel & Mogto and other educational institutions.
LOHIT
LOHIT district joined the rest of the state to observe the day with a mass procession across Tezu township to sensitize common people about the essence of yoga through placards, banners and slogans which concluded at the Jubilee Ground. Arun Jyoti, Patanjali Yogpith, AYUSH and Brahmakumaris jointly organized the IYD celebration programme at Jubilee ground.  MLA Tezu-Sunpura AC Karikho Kri exhorted all to practice yoga daily. AC Sony Singh, IAS also appealed to make yoga a part of life.
Resource Persons from Iswariya Vishwa Vidhalaya Mt. Abu Rajasthan Dr HB Shetty and Dr R Himadri highlighted various diseases that are curable through regular practice of yoga. SP Lohit DW Thungon, HoDs, NGOs, students and general public participated with great enthusiasm. District Administration also distributed prizes to the winners of essay competition.
LOWER SUBANSIRI
Minister Agriculture, Horticulture Veterinary and Animal Husbandry & Dairy Development  Er.Tage Taki led the IYD celebrations at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Dobi and exhorted all to make yoga a daily habit. The gathering performed asanas and pranayams under the instruction of yoga teacher from VKV. Children, teachers, HoDs and members of Kisan Morcha, Lower Subansiri unit participated in the programme.
Faculty members and students from various departments of Indira Gandhi Technology and Medical Sciences observed the day in the institute campus. ASHAs and Anganwadi workers also organised joint yoga sessions at their centres.
