ITANAGAR, Jan 27: Mountaineer Tagit Sorang has suggested that the state government should constitute an expert team of mountaineers like the ‘Sherpa Mountaineers’ of Nepal to explore the adventurous locations in Arunachal Pradesh and encourage mountaineering. Sorang, who represented the state in the first ever ‘Indian Winter Bailey Trail Trekking Expedition’ this month on Wednesday said the formation of a state expert team of mountaineers will not only serve as a guide for the extreme peaks, but also help in exploring the unexplored mountains,  finding new trekking locations, generating enthusiasm among youths in mountaineering and adventure sports and attracting international tourists too. “Our state is blessed with beautiful landscapes which need to be explored more.
To make the state as one of the potential power houses of adventure tourism, an expert team is a must,” he asserted. Sorang was the only trekker to represent the state in the expedition tour among a total of 26 participants which included trekkers from NIMAS, Manipur and Assam. “If the state government comes up with the idea of constituting an expert team, it will also fill the gap in communication with the NIMAS as well as the Indian Mountaineering Federation (IMF),” he added. “The formation of an expert team of mountaineers will also encourage the ‘vocal for local’ vision in a way,” he said, while requesting the state’s youths to pursue advanced training from NIMAS, rather than quitting after basic training.
The mountaineer further informed that the ‘Indian Winter Bailey Trail Trekking Expedition’ was sponsored by IMF under the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and was part of the National Youth Festival 2021. 26 trekkers covered a distance of 200 km in eleven days from Jang (Tawang) to Thembang (Dirang) which started from January 7.
