ANAND, Oct 9: Arunachal Pradesh Minister for Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Dairy Development, Gabriel D. Wangsu, visited the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) headquarters in Anand, Gujarat, on Thursday, accompanied by senior officers from the state department.
During the 3-day tour, Minister Wangsu emphasised the critical need for a comprehensive roadmap to develop the dairy sector in the northeastern state. "We need to come down to work on the ground," he said at a meeting in presence of NDDB Chairman Dr. Meenesh C Shah, stressing the importance of moving beyond planning to implementation.
The Minister highlighted several key concerns facing Arunachal Pradesh's dairy sector. "We are in a state of confusion regarding the breed of animals and how to upgrade our local breeds," Wangsu said, pointing to the need for technical guidance. He also underscored the importance of fodder availability, stating that ‘fodder is very important and the key’ for sustainable dairy development.
Wangsu further drew attention to the milk and its product requirements of military personnel stationed in the state, saying, "It is important for us that we take care of the nutritional balance of our citizen and military stationed in the border state."
He urged NDDB to provide comprehensive support for improving dairy development in Arunachal Pradesh, taking into account the state's unique agro-climatic conditions. "There is a need for a survey considering the agro-climatic conditions of Arunachal Pradesh. We need a perfect roadmap and master plan," he added.
Emphasising Arunachal Pradesh’s commitment to aligning with NDDB’s vision for sustainable dairy development, Wangsu hoped the challenges related to setting up milk processing and chilling plants, formation of dairy cooperatives, cattle breeding farms, fodder management etc would be adequately addressed with technical support from NDDB.
Responding to the state's requirements, the NDDB Chairman assured all support to the state government and that a team of senior NDDB officials would visit Arunachal Pradesh to conduct research and prepare a comprehensive development plan tailored to the state's specific needs.
