Chatung, the pioneer of electronic media and a state gold medal awardee passed away on 26 October, 2019 due to cancer at TRIHMS, Naharlagun.
Highlighting Chatung's contribution to the state media, APC President Dodum Yangfo appealed to the young journalists to take inspiration from the life of the late journalist. Yangfo said the present journalists should also learn to ask straight questions during work and be rational in their reporting.
“Being rational in reporting was one of the best journalistic approaches which Taro Chatung had within him during his entire life. Therefore, we should imbibe this quality and pass it on to the next,” he said.

Language and accent should never be a barrier in reporting, especially in the present era of digitalization, he said. On the sidelines, he also appealed to the state government to provide a job to a member of late Chatung's family at the earliest, which was one of the demands of the state media fraternity to the government for the last two years.
