Pasighat, Dec 15: A 24-member Kho-Kho team from Arunachal Pradesh, comprising 12 girls and 12 boys, departed today to participate in the 69th School Games Federation of India (SGFI) National-Level Kho-Kho Championship, being held at Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.
The team was selected following a state-level selection trial conducted at Namsai, where young athletes from across the state showcased their skills and competitive spirit to earn a place in the prestigious national event.
National referee from Arunachal Pradesh, Nimita Cohain, lauded the dedication, discipline, and growing talent of Kho-Kho players from the state. She expressed pride in the selected participants and urged the Government of Arunachal Pradesh to give greater focus to the development of Kho-Kho, particularly by strengthening infrastructure and expanding opportunities for young athletes.
State Coordinator of Education Dept. Kho-Kho,  Tanya Padung, shared that Education dept. has marked Kho-Kho as an annual event. he also expressed enthusiasm over the team’s participation at the national level. He informed that their Education Dept. sponsorers and financed the Kho-Kho annual event, which has played a key role in nurturing the sport. However, he also highlighted the need for increased government attention, pointing out the dilapidated sports infrastructure in several districts, which poses challenges to the sport’s growth.
The participation of Arunachal’s Kho-Kho team in the SGFI nationals marks another significant step in promoting indigenous and traditional sports in the state, while also providing a national platform for young talents to shine.
