Tezu, July 27: A free Cataract Surgery Camp was organized by District Health Society (NPCB Unit) in collaboration with Vivekananda Kendra Arun Jyoti, Lohit at Zonal General Hospital, Tezu from July 25-27.
Speaking at the camp, Dr. Taba Khanna, SPO (NPCB), Naharlagun said that Arunachal Pradesh has the highest blindness prevalence rate after Assam in the country. He urged the people of Lohit to avail all facilities of the free camp and informed that the operation would otherwise cost over Rs. 20,000. He also highlighted about the upcoming programme of Cataract Blindness Backlog Free which is likely to be started from September onwards. The upcoming CBBF programme will cover cent percent of the population for house-to-house survey and eye screening by technical eye team with the help of respective village ASHAs.
Dr. C. L. Manchay, DMO, Lohit asked people to spread the word about the free cataract surgery camp. The entire cost of the operation including to and fro journey of the patients with all medicines will be borne by the NPCB Lohit unit, he said.  
Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman, District Health Society, Lohit, Marge Sora who inaugurated the three day camp appreciated the activities initiated by the DMO, Lohit and Vivekananda Kendra Arun Jyoti Lohit Unit. He also advised the doctors to take utmost care during operation and various precautionary measures to be taken after operation.
