ITANAGAR, Feb 18: The 43rd International Kolkata Book Fair 2019, world’s largest book fair in terms of visitors and third largest in terms of books accumulation came to an end with the ringing of bells accompanied with thousands of claps on February 11.
This year’s theme country was Guatemala and as per people counting machine, an estimated 23 lakhs book lovers visited the fair during the 12 days, a world record ever.
In this edition of the fair, Arunachal Pradesh had a gracious representation with its aesthetic presentation of thematic exhibition stall put up by Directorate of Research, which drew a huge crowd including distinguished scholars, researchers, business visitors, tourists and book lovers.
Besides West Bengal , the host state, Arunachal Pradesh was the only state government which participated showcasing precious research publications of as many as 200 titles to highlight the splendid cultural heritage and traditions of the ethnic people to the greater Indian mass. Arunachal made its maiden appearance in 2012 in pursuance of administrative instruction made by the then Commissioner Research Y.D. Thongchi.
This year’s  glittering presence of the state in International Kolkata Book Fair’19 was distinctly felt by dint of wide coverage in considerable number of print and electronic media which has helped in creating a bond of unity between the people of West Bengal and Arunachal Pradesh.
In a communiqué, Director of Research Batem Pertin greeted the representative team consisting of Dr. Radhe Yampi, S. Chanda, led by R.N. Koley for accomplishing the prime objectives and achieving grand success.
The highest sold titles in the fair were ‘Udita Surjer Deshe’ (Bengali) by R.N. Koley & S. Chanda, Understanding Arunachal Pradesh by R.N. Koley, Folktales of Arunachal Pradesh by Batem Pertin, R.N. Koley & S. Chanda.
This year, six books were released, which is a record. 408 books were sold and 207 visitors recorded their valuable comments in visitors’ remarks book , a clear hint of a  successful participation.
Minister Cooperative, Agriculture etc. Govt. of West Bengal Purendu Bose’s comment in the remarks book went like this – “I love Arunachal. The collection of books is very useful.” Official release
