Indian Army conducts ‘Know Your Army’ outreach
TAWANG, Jun 24: In a rare difference of opinion between the Indian Army and Tawang District Administration over ownership of land here in the township, Army authorities today obstructed the construction works for widening of the road near Circuit House just below the Big Buddha statue towards Tawang Old Market, insisting that the stretch comes under the Army land map.
In response, the DA has asked the Army to authenticate their claim, else the widening works which is a state government project will continue and both civilians and Army will use it after completion. The incident comes as a contrast to the usual bonhomie existing between the civil administration and Army in the district which in turn has helped in strengthening the security of the lengthy and porous international border. The people of Tawang, however, have always been magnanimous in parting with their limited grazing grounds which are being reduced due to expansion of urban township and Army establishments, all for the greater cause of national security.
