Tawang, Jul 31: In view of the recent detection of a few Covid-19 positive cases among the Army and GREF personnel stationed in Tawang district, a coordination meeting was convened by Tawang MLA Tsering Tashi participated by the representatives from Indian Army, SSB, ITBP, SIB, SB, GREF, public leaders from Jang and students’ union leaders here at the DC Conference Hall.
Tashi said that even a single case of infection is a matter of concern since many of the villagers work under GREF as labourers and reminded the need for working together to fight the virus through observation of all SOPs. Informing that he himself had undergone testing after returning from the state capital and had made public appearance only after testing negative, the MLA requested the Army, paramilitary and GREF authorities to strictly adhere to the SOPs with 28-day quarantine as an extra safety measure for their personnel. He further requested the GREF authority not to curtail wages of those labourers who have been home-quarantined by the DA due to their contact with positive patients and conveyed his gratitude to all the frontline workers in the district for their dedicated services.
DC Tawang Sang Phuntsok read out the new SOPs and the memorandum submitted by the villagers of Jang which expressed concern regarding the detection of positive cases in GREF Camp Jang where many locals are engaged as labourers. “However, the majority of them have tested negative from the tests so far,” he informed. Participating in the open discussion, senior public representatives, ADC, SDMO and student leaders placed their opinions and requested the central paramilitary forces and GREF to follow the SOPs and share information relating to returnees and detection of symptomatic cases, if any.
DC thanked the Jang villagers for their contribution in erecting check gate at POE and providing free food to the drivers during lockdowns. DIPRO
