AALO, Mar 3: Even after more than three months of being declared as ‘missing’, there are still no clues about the whereabouts of Rangnya Karcho, the 34 Assam Rifles Rifleman serving at the Maram Hq under Senapati district of Manipur and hailing originally from Aalo, West Siang.
It was on November 22 last, the family members of Karcho received a verbal intimation from NK/Sub Havildar B.N Prasad that he had gone untraceable while on duty. On receiving the information and after waiting for further details from CO 34 Assam Rifles Hq authorities which didn’t arrive, the aggrieved family members filed a ‘Zero’ FIR at Aalo Police Station which is a norm for initiation of an early investigation process irrespective of the place of incident/jurisdiction. However, even after filing the ‘Zero’ FIR at Aalo PS, the two family members of the missing Rifleman, his elder brother H/C (SG) Ragmo Karcho serving in 2nd AP Bn BHq Aalo and his nephew Ige Karcho, a Trained Graduate Teacher were sent to the In-charge of Police Station, Mao on February 4 to hand over a copy of the said FIR, who in turn forwarded a copy of the same to the CO 34th Assam Rifle Hq Aina (Manipur).
Although the family members went on to meet the CO 34th Assam Rifles Hq Aina on February 6, as he was unavailable at that time the Lt. Col. Officer In-charge attended them instead. The pain and frustration of the missing Rifleman’s relatives amplified since no updated information arrived this time too. However, the AR authorities did their best to trace Karcho and launched a rigorous search operation in different probable locations like Maram, Tadubi, Makhan, Senapati and Mao Gate (Nagaland and Manipur border) that lasted for 7 days from February 9-15. But all efforts proved futile and till now even after 100 days of receipt of the telephone call that informed Karcho's missing for the first time, the family members are yet to get a formal report and an updated status.
Karcho’s family members after submitting the details and the statement of his wife Rebi Karcho to the OC Mao PS have now returned to Aalo. They have expressed desire that the case be handed over to the Home Department, Union Ministry of Home Affairs and also to the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. DIPRO
