ITANAGAR, Oct 10: Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) marked its forty-first foundation day on Saturday by planting trees, cleaning, reaching out to Covid-19 warriors and organising talks on importance of mental health.
In Naharlagun, the  Central Executive Committee along with its Itanagar and Naharlagun branches celebrated the  day at its office. The gathering was restricted by the society because of COVID-19 protocol.
President of Society, Gumri Ringu spoke about the Society’s long struggle for a gender just society  and its work for the upliftment of women and children of the State.
During the programme, the APWWS song in Hindi was released by Ringu, Advisor Jarjum Ete and Secretary General Kani Nada. The song is sung by Rerik Karlo Digbak, her team and lyrics is by Yali Mugli Paksok and Dr Jamuna Bini Tadar.
 In the meeting, members remembered the contribution made by Lomte Riba Ete and other founder members.
Nada acknowledged the importance of media at an age where information is free but not necessarily factual.
Miao unit celebrated the day by organising a plantation prog at Maio CHC, Namphai-1 and Circuit House.
The team donated  food items to the Miao Covid Care Center  and ceiling fans to town middle school.
Later they organised a formal function which was attended by Deputy Commissioner Dr Devansh Yadav. The team submitted a memorandum to the DC seeking mandatory presenting of ID cards at liquor shops to prevent teenagers from buying alcohol.  
The unit further requested the DC to organise marriage registration camps to check polygyny specially amongst the government employees.
Miao unit of APWWS felicitated COVID warriors including the general administration, COVID care centre, Miao, police dept, EAC Namrata Bhatt Tiwari, BRCC P Kanmai, JE RWD Jumrik Ngomdir, RFW CHC Latgam Singpho, CHC lab technicians Manik C Jana and Munna Bin and Pisi Suriya Singhpho. The DC felicitated the COVID-19 warriors.
In Upper Siang, the  Yingkiong branch organised the day by carrying out tree plantation at Marrying Primary School while the Jengging branch cleaned few locations in the township.
The foundation day  was also observed at Koloriang in Kurung Kumey, Basar in Lepa Rada, Aalo in West Siang, Dumporijo and Daporijo at Upper Subansiri.
